Outside Corner Application of adhesive film: European Option
Description
Many times one of the obstacles during the application of the adhesive film is how to finish corners.
We apply the flat part, the edges but then you are in trouble on the corners, because on the one hand we want that the film does not come off soon, while on the other hand we want to avoid that you notice too cuts and folds. How then?
There are basically three ways to play a corner.
- The Full angle, which is shown in a tutorial specific, suitable in cases where the angle or is not perfectly smooth or when there is a rounding of the same.
- Angle called “European”, we see in this case, which is quite simple to perform, leaving only one side with the cut visible and certainly increases the tightness of the film than the angle full.
- Angle called “Visible”, we show in a tutorial specific alternative to European, shows the cutting line more but offers greater resilience in terms of adhesion and is also more “elegant” so to say ..
We see in this tutorial the European version, the easiest to do that with a little practice on the satisfactory and you run faster.

Caution. Video Tutorial
In this case we want to show the technique through video showing precisely the proceedings. We used a small piece of film on a regular corner. In your case, obviously the process will be carried out on the surface you are covering.
The procedure is simple and is preferable when the angle on which work is precise and defined.
After applying the film on the flat, first we decide which side of the border remains more visible to the view where you want the cut known as possible.
Remember: the less visible side is that in this case “close” at the beginning, so always think before starting execution.
We always leave 4 / 5cm in abundance on each side. We proceed with fixing the coating along the edge of the most prominent, also using the heat gun to warm slightly and secure better across the board.
We do not close the lower side, but let’s leave it open. We take our cutter (preferably with long blades) and apply a cut of about 40 °, starting from the top point of the angle to the end of the film.
WARNING: this cut is the only important thing to do well. Done right this the rest comes naturally. How’s that? In theory, the exact center of the top in about 40/45 ° tilt (45 ° not because if you cut over then there will be problems in the later part) closed slightly better than too open.
We suggest (although maniacs applicators will give us against) cuts starting slightly above the center of the angle instead of slightly below as in this case, you can still trim in step subsequent, while if you cut too much in, it is almost impossible to recover.
Fear not, this step comes with practice, make small mistakes it is normal if you’ve never done before. In any case, you did, you may be orgolgiosi and remember that in 80% of cases, small defects are not noticed ever.
We apply then the part with the cut at 40 ° on the opposite edge.
The method provides for European at this point that with the cutter longitudinally incise the film starting from the top down on the side at 40 °, maintaining a margin from the center of the angle ca 4 / 5mm. Chop and on ..
Incise now horizontally the part of the film which exceeds the angle and close with a cut down to ca 30 ° and apply the bottom of the film on the opposite side of the surface.
Perfect, now we close the minus side view which obviously will have an angle greater than 45 °. We apply the film on the board but don’t fix to the opposite side, leave it open.
Last step: cut oblique. We take our cutter, and we make a cut along the center margin of the angle. Blade slightly oblique. Do not worry if it is not perfect, you can always trim but beware that there is less material cutting and greater appear under the surface underneath.
We proceed as before, by cutting the excess film first in a transversal way and then closing the border.
We turn our panel and trim the film keeping 1cm margin or more. It depends if we want to play this part or not.
Done. your angle is completed.

ATTENTION
In the video we did a lot of attention to perfection of execution deliberately, because our priority was to show the correct steps to be performed.
The application of the film is a manual labor, perfection comes with the evidence and with the mistakes then correct themselves, so do not be discouraged if your corner is not perfect initially, it is normal !!
Try and try again if you are a beginner and ask for advice if necessary. We are here for!
